Sample Products from "Why Do I Matter?"
Here are some of the culminating montages produced during the NWP fall project along with their accompanying artist statements:

I created a digital art piece to express my thesis because I connect to art much more easily, since II find it therapeutic. Coming up with these ideas weren't easy at all, but what was a main source of inspiration for my art was the movies KickAss 1 & 2 and began my art by designing individual superheroes and super villains. From there I moved to starting my artwork on Gimp 2.0, which is a digital artwork and photo editing software. The assortment of related pictures was an idea recommended to me by a higher rank. My video promotes the idea that positivity can effect your physical, mental, and emotional health.
Making a movie about compassion interested us because we saw people in the world around us that lacked or ignored it; we wanted to know more about the subject. We created the three to four second long segments of video where people are saying what they think compassion is because it gives multiple perspectives on compassion. In the making of the rest of our movie we used these outsider opinions to wrap up our montage. This helped us understand what others thought. When we were creating the voice-over for the segment with boy, the dog, and the old man, we really wanted the viewers to feel badly for the boy and to feel how he felt. We hope that this segment makes the viewers feel empathy for the boy. We hope that after watching the video the viewers feel the same way we do about compassion.
My inspiration to do this was last year on our first project i worked with imovie but i never got to go in depth with it . So for this year i wanted to work on i movie and i wanted a challenge , therefore i decide to put in videos . My videos weren’t going to have words but someone physically showing what they were doing rather than verbally . My video is to help people by giving tips and information on how to save , spend and invest . Even though i had wanted to go bigger and do different cool things i didnt because i didnt have enough time and i was the only person in my group so i was hard for me to do this and 10 other things . But im happy with what turned out to be .

Our group’s project is about women’s rights. One of our parts was about the Muslim religion. We chose a picture to represent muslim women, we also chose a picture that represents women's rights to an abortion and a picture of. We chose these pictures to show the audience that women have went through many things to be able to have the same rights as men. Our research and final product prove that men and women are equal. Women in religion can do anything. The Quran also states that men and women are equal. I feel that everyone should understand this so that all women are treated equally. I wanted my project to include the movie because the movie uses more then one medium. If you have pictures, music and audio, and combine all those, then that can explain what you are trying to say even better. I didn't wanted to take anybody else's video. I wanted to make something that is original and that is mine. This was my first time making a video and I feel I did a good job expressing my point.

What lead me on my path for the creation of my video montage was a deeper desire to find out more about why I am the way that I am. I was inspired by the idea of teen communication in my generation and how it effects, not only the giver, but the getter. While working on my pice I blundered upon an idea that never occurred to me before; communication is near impossible without the layers of emotion that go along with it. When I added this concept my video turned into a montage, not only because it could portray what I was trying to communicate, but because it was anything but linear. For example, my message of how in person communication is essential in order to effectively state emotions and be heard on all levels was a very straight forward subject to me, and my mind was stuck on a linear track, but as the idea of what a montage actually was became clear to me, a light bulb appeared over my head. I decided to evoke the viewers' thoughts by using pieces and parts of three conversations ,using three different emotions, in three different mediums  to make my linear thinking take a backseat , allowing my developing montage to take the wheel. An easy process it was not. To turn my once linear point A to B video into a montage that gave a clear message through pieces and parts that made up a whole proved to be a challenge to my one track mind. When my montage was near complete and I had to go through the endless critique that was Mr.Harris I realized the beauty of what a montage really was.
